Is reporting really anonymous?

You don't need an account, and giving your name and contact details is optional. Anonymous submission is selected unless you change it. Our website doesn't store your IP address, but our hosting and security providers keep short-term connection logs that include IP addresses. If someone may be watching your internet connection, use Tor Browser or a VPN you trust.

Who sees my report?

OHRM's monitors and administrators, through a password-protected dashboard. If you give contact details, only they can see them, and they are never published.

What happens after I submit?

You receive a reference code. Our team reads the report and decides whether to publish it on the Documented Incidents page. Not every report is published. If yours is, its title and description appear as you wrote them, so don't include names, phone numbers or exact places of people who haven't agreed. Your contact details are never published, and photos are shown only if a monitor decides it is safe.

Can I report something that happened to someone else?

Yes. Choose how you know about it, for example as a witness or from someone else. Don't name victims or witnesses who haven't agreed to be named, and share only what you can share safely.

Which language can I write in?

Write in the language you're most comfortable with, including Afaan Oromoo, Amharic, Tigrinya or English. The site is shown in Afaan Oromoo with English, Amharic or Tigrinya beneath it; use the language menu to choose.

How do I check on my report?

Keep the reference code you receive after submitting, somewhere only you can see it. Enter it on the Track a Report page to see the report's status. We can't look up a report without the code, because there are no accounts. Anyone with the code can see the report's title and status, so keep it private.

Is it safe to upload photos and documents?

We automatically remove hidden location and camera data from JPG, PNG and WEBP photos. PDF and GIF files are kept exactly as you upload them and may contain your name or device details. Before uploading, check photos for faces, uniforms, house numbers or landmarks that could identify you or someone who hasn't agreed.

Can I correct or withdraw a report?

Email [email protected] with your reference code and what you'd like corrected or removed. Use an email address that is safe for you, and send only what's needed.

How long does a review take?

There is no fixed timeline. Reports are reviewed by a volunteer team, and some take longer to check than others.

Does a published report mean it has been proven?

No. A published incident is a documented account, not a court finding. We review reports before publishing them, but we can't guarantee that every detail is accurate. Each incident shows a label saying whether OHRM has verified it or whether it is not independently verified.
