Extortion: punitive taxation at gunpoint Starting from 19 April, government forces in Saqa Coqorsa district, Jimma zone, were deployed to villages, going house-to-house ‘in the name of supporting the imperial defence forces’ collecting 500 birr from ‘poor mothers who have nothing to eat’ and up to 10,000 birr from others. They began at 6.00 p.m. to ensure villagers were home.
