While demolitions occur in some areas of Shaggar city, residents in other areas are subject to demands for 6,000 birr as fees for changing their house numbers as addresses are renewed (ONM, 3 April). ‘It is difficult to live in Shaggar city, not only because of the destruction of property. Militiamen are extorting money from people every day in order to survive.’ Judges beaten and court suspended Addis Standard reported on 22 January that two judges at the Yaya Gulele District Court, North Showa, had been beaten and intimidated by government security forces so much that the court had been suspended.
