Detention by government forces in Agarfa, Bale (8 Mar 2025)

In Agarfa district of West Bale, one family’s home was burned down and four of the family detained on 8 March. Government agents are extorting money from already impoverished villagers in West Bale. In Dinsho district, up to 5,000 birr is being demanded for ‘health insurance,’ constructing local offices and other taxes and dues. Even men who pull ‘horse carts’ are being charged up to 2,000 birr in order to work. Government forces are demanding up to 10,000 birr at gunpoint according to ONM (27 March).
