This large crowd was held for three days under tight restriction without water or food. It was an assembly of all sectors of the society, including elderly people, children, breast-feeding mothers, community leaders, youth. ‘No one could come out; no one could go in to ask about them, or to take them any water, meals, medications, clothing, blankets or other supplies.’ The people suffered and later recounted the depth of the trauma and feeling of desperation and vulnerability they experienced. On January 9, the ENDF released most of the people but retained 34 from the group, keeping them in detention.
