A local informant (W.1) reported to OSG on 22 August. He said there were ‘numerous’ unreported incidents of human rights abuses in West Wallega. ‘We don’t know even 10% of what is happening. Youngsters are all joining OLA. OLA controls large areas now.’ Students returning to Mandi town for end-of-term breaks are killed when walking around or disappear and their bodies are never found. Many women are raped by soldiers. The government pays for people to inform on each other. In 34 kebeles in Mandi woreda, he estimated 150-180 have been killed and thousands imprisoned since January 2023.
