His fellow detainees, Abdi Regassa, Dawit Abdeta, Lammi Begna, Mikael Boran, Kenassa Ayana, Gaada Gebissa and Gaada Oljira were secretly transferred to Dukem, 37 km southeast of Finfinnee, in April 2023, one day before they were to be visited by officials from the National Election Board of Ethiopia. Kenassa Ayana is unable to move without crutches or a wheelchair. He has liver complications from diabetes and developed orthopaedic problems after being imprisoned. Gaada Gebissa has Hepatitis B, for which he should be receiving medication.
