A hall used by elders to celebrate the traditional Oromo monotheist Waqefata religion in Garba Guracha, a town in Kuyu district, North Showa, was burned down on 24 January 2023 by ‘government and local militia’. Photographs of the burnt-out ruin were published on Facebook and are reproduced below. The assembly hall was on private land bought from the town administration many years ago. Worshippers were made to surrender their identity cards recently.
