Oromo IDPs in Horo Guduru, one of the zones in Wallega, in early December 2022 Addis Standard 16 December reported a ‘fast deteriorating’ situation in Oromia. The ‘crisis is particularly severe in conflict-affected Western Oromia where electricity, mobile network, health facilities, banks and markets are not functional’. Up to 10,000 IDPs were walking for 3-5 days to Amhara region. Hostilities prevented assistance reaching Benishangul-Gumuz Region, further west. There were an estimated 740,000 IDPs in western Oromia, Benishangul-Gumuz and bordering Amhara regions.
