One woman, interviewed in 2023 as an IDP in Shambu bus station, described abuses which exemplify Fano’s commitment to demoralise and destroy the spirit of the Oromo people. She wept uncontrollably while telling how she could not relate to her newly born baby following her traumatic experiences. When Fano attacked her village near Kiramu town, East Wallega, in November 2022, they tied her husband to a chair so he was forced to watch his pregnant wife being gang-raped. She was then forced to watch as they killed, decapitated and dismembered her husband.
