Sexual violence by government forces in East Hararghe (12 Sep 2022)

Ibrahim, 31, from E Hararge, a renowned Qeerroo activist, was detained four times from 2010 to 2016, including at Tor Hayloch military camp and Maikelawi in Finfinnee/Addis Ababa. He was shot in his right leg, suffered broken digits and nose, had toenails removed, bastinado, thumbs hyperflexed to forearm, falantis, immersion of head in water and suspended by his genitalia. He was raped by two guards and witnessed the killing of a fellow detainee in Tor Hayloch. His first child and brother-in-law were both killed because of his activities. His first wife drowned en route to Yemen in 2017.
