Displacement by government forces in Karrayyu, East Shewa (Dec 2021)

The community is horrified and traumatized at the brutality and continued destruction, displacement, dying and killing. Most of the people have moved to distant areas, such as the border regions between Karrayyu and Afar. The number of displaced could be as high as 7080,000 in that area. The military is still heavily present around the town. Nobody goes to the market in Matahara for shopping without fear of being abducted by the security forces. In the community, the general feeling is that the authorities have reverted to the type of aggression exhibited by the killing of the Abba Gadaas in December 2021.
