Of the 39 Karrayyu jila members detained on 1 December 2021, 23 were taken to unknown locations. About two weeks later the body of one, Jilo Boru, was handed to his family from the Oromia special forces camp in Mojo with head wounds and signs of beating. EHRC found reasonable grounds to believe this was a further extrajudicial killing. The others were released weeks later.
