EHRC's investigation found that on 1 December 2021 government security forces detained 39 members of the Karrayyu Michille Gadaa jila. Sixteen were taken to Chebi Anole forest, where 14, including Abbaa Gadaa Kadir Hawas, were made to lie down and shot dead; two escaped. Police stopped people from collecting the bodies for hours. EHRC found reasonable grounds to believe these were extrajudicial killings.
