Residents in Ethiopia’s Borana Zone, in Oromia regional state, have reported an outbreak of a severe livestock disease affecting goats and sheep in border districts, with some households losing dozens of animals and raising fears of further losses among pastoralist communities already struggling with the effects of prolonged drought. Huqqaa Boruu, a resident of Omooree Village in Taltallee District, told Addis Standard that the disease causes livestock to deteriorate rapidly, with some animals dying in less than two weeks.
