Abduction / extortion / forced conscription by government forces in Adama, East Shewa (11 Aug 2026)

In the administrative district of Adama city, militia were reported by ONM on 11 August to be demanding 30,000 to 50,000 birr from families to exempt their children from conscription. Armed attacks, cattle theft and denial of land use Government forces, supported by Afar militia, fired on Oromo civilians in Qobbo, Fantale district, on 2 June and attacked Oromo herders on 5 June in Banti kebele in the same district. In the second assault, government troops stole over 1,000 head of cattle. They slaughtered 28 for food and took the others to Awash military camp.
