Abduction / extortion / forced conscription by government forces in Fentale, East Shewa (21 Jun 2026)

ONM reported that in June over 50 government militia members were extorting money and property from residents in Fantale, Dugda and Bora districts, under various pretexts. On 21 June, a subsistence farmer and head of a large family, Sayidoo Dhaddachoo, in Godoo Faafaatee kebele, Fantale district, was detained for refusing to hand over his son for conscription into the army. His family were ordered to pay 200,000 birr on threat of his being executed (ONM).
