Detention by government forces in West Wollega (12 Jun 2026)

- West Wollega
Most detentions were of civilians accused of supporting OLA or relatives of suspected members of OLA. Large numbers of people were rounded up and properties burned in areas in which OLA had been active, as a form of collective punishment – ‘drying out the ocean to kill the fish’ or as Abiy Ahmed put it ‘grabbing the farmers by the throat’ (see above). As reported by ONM on 12 June, soldiers moved around towns and rural areas carrying out abuses, looting property, driving away livestock, confiscating smartphones, extorting and stealing money with threats.
