Killing by government forces in Gida Ayana, East Wollega (3 Jun 2026)

Two farmers who had been forcibly conscripted into local militia were shot dead by their commanders in Jireen kebele, Nunnu Qumba district, on 3 June, when they attempted to desert, escape the military camp and return to their farms and families (ONM). Disputes over loot and ethnic divisions reportedly led to fighting between two government militia factions in Gida Ayana and Kiramu districts on 13 June. A battalion commander was killed and others deserted following the fray (ONM).
