Killing by police in Guto Gida, East Wollega (27 May 2026)

Many detainees had a family history of being abused previously. In Guto Gida district, Shumate Xilahun, mother of two, had been widowed five months previously when her husband was shot dead, and, farmer Addunyaa Waaqtolee, was abducted when herding his cattle on 27 May, six months after being detained and tortured in Nekemte city police station. Whole families were sometimes detained, as in Horo Bulluq district, where a family of three were imprisoned for alleged ties with OLA on 27 May.
