Detention by government militia in East Shewa (20 May 2026)

On 20 May, at the time of the arrest of farmer Ifaa Badhadha in Warra Iluu, Ada’a Barga district, accused of having links to OLA, party members stole three quintals of teff from him and 100,000 birr and other household items from his neighbour, Dabalee Dinquu, Eight days later, four farmers from the same kebele were taken from working on their own land and forced to work on land belonging to party affiliates. Over 60 farmers were taken from Bishaan Diimoo kebele and forced by militia to ‘harvest private timber’ – another throwback to the neftenya-gabbar system.
