Displacement by government militia in Guto Gida, East Wollega (May 2026)

Larger sums were demanded from business owners and town dwellers as taxes or for defence purposes in Guto Gida, Jimma Raree and Jimma Ganate districts. Party agents took 11,800 birr from two residents of Horo Alaltu town and 38,000 birr from another for ‘firearms to defend the town against Fano and OLA’ in May. When the weapons did not materialise, requests for their money to be returned were met with only threats and intimidation. Large sums were taken from at least 15 civilians in Abbay Comman district in June.
