In Meta district, Abduramaan Abdallaa Ahimad was so badly beaten in May when he could not respond to extortionate demands for cash that his arms and legs were reportedly broken. Sharif Kalifa, a farmer caught up in a sweep in Urji Dima and Cora kebeles, Ciro district, in late June, when dozens were detained for failing to pay high fees to obtain digital ID cards, was subjected to a public flogging and had his Short-Wave radio confiscated after being accused of listening to Oromo National Voice broadcasts.
