Renewed intensity of persecution by federal forces began in early 2022 and was further intensified with drone, aircraft and heavy artillery attacks during the talks to end the war in Tigray. After those hostilities ceased in November 2022, tens of thousands of ENDF soldiers were trucked to Western Oromia in late 2022 and early 2023. Scorched earth policies in renewed onslaughts on Oromo farmers in Guji, Borana, Showa, Wollo and Wallega were conducted to deny support for OLA.
